Dahii chicken (chicken lehmi masala)


  • chicken thighs- 1 kg
  • Tumeric powder- 1  tea spoon
  • Natural Yoghurt 3,8% fat, -500gr
  • Ginger Garlic paste- 4 tea spoon
  • Corriander powder-1.5 tea spoon
  • Kashmiri Mirch or Chilly powder- 1.5 tea spoon
  • Garam Masala-1 tea spoon
  • Salt-1.5 tea spoon ( according to taste)
  • 3 red onion
  • 4 green chilli
  • chicken curry masala- 1 tea spoon -Optional

Chicken marination:

  1. remove skin from chicken
  2. massage chicken thighs with  Tumeric  ( to clean chicken)
  3. remove Tumeric with cold water( to clean chicken)
  4. multiple small slice on chicken  ( to allow marination to seep thru)
  5. make the marinade as below:
  • 1.5 tea spoon coriander spoon
  • 0.5 tea spoon Garam Masala
  • 1 tea spoon Kashiri Mirch or Chili powder
  • 2 tea spoon ginger garlic
  • 1/2 tea spoon salt
  • 1kg chicken
  • 500gr yoghurt
  • 1/2 tea spoon Tumeric
  • mix it all

Marinate for 30 to 45 min.

Preparation :

  • chopping 4 green chili
  • chopping the onions
  • then first heat the pan with enough oil to brown onion.
  • when the oil is hot cook green chilly  first and then cook the red onion
  • when the onion is cooked ( light brown)  add 1 tea  spoon salt + 1/2 tea spoon turmeric powder  and saute for 2 min
  • then add 2 tea  spoon ginger garlic paste and saute it for 2-3 min
  • Add  the marinated chicken+1/2 chilly powder  -Mix well
  • Cook on slow fire for 20 min till the chicken is cooked – with lid on
  • Add chicken curry powder -1 tea spoon( optional)
  • Cook the the curry for another 20 min without the lid till the curry thickens.
